Step by Step: think Recycle at Work

You have taken the first step by looking to Metro and Washington County as your Recycle at Work resources.

Metro has developed an easy step by step approach to help your business re:duce waste and begin re:cycling in the office.

Step 1: Identify items that can be recycled at work. Conduct your own assessment of your business waste, or ask Metro for a free consultation.

Step 2: Contact a hauler. Once you identify what you want to recycle, the hauler and/or property management company will help provide recycling containers and labels. Obtaining containers is as easy as setting up trash collection. Metro also offers free desk-side boxes for collecting paper as well as larger central collection containers for bottles, cans, paper and other recyclables.

Step 3: Spread the word. Most people would much rather recycle items than throw them away; they just need to know how. Spread the word! Put up a Recycle at Work poster, send an e-mail and label new recycling containers so everyone knows what can be recycled and where items should go. Metro can put you in touch with a contact us that can provide you with the tools to make a difference. For more information about Recycle at Work, fill out a request form, call us at 503-234-3000 or email us. Your local recycling specialist will call you back within two business days to set up an appointment to meet and help you improve your recycling program.

Step 4: Make recycling convenient. It's as simple as tucking a recycling box under all employee desks and assigning a designated area to collect bottles and cans in the kitchen.

Step 5: Track Progress. Once you've started your recycling program, track your progress. Reassess your disposal needs to help you determine if you can get by with less frequent service and/or smaller containers. Share your success stories with us at info@recycleatwork.com .
